President of the Republic of Abkhazia Badra Gunba had a telephone conversation with Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.
Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the President of the Republic of Abkhazia, Badra Gunba, and the entire people of the Republic on the Day of International Recognition. He noted the high level of Russian-Abkhaz relations, emphasizing their strategic and allied nature, as well as Russia's continued interest in further strengthening cooperation and developing close ties between the two countries.


Badra Gunba expressed deep gratitude to Dmitry Medvedev for the historic decision of August 26, 2008 to recognize the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia.


The President of Abkhazia noted that this step will forever remain in the history of Abkhazia and will be gratefully preserved in the memory of the people. The decision of the Russian leadership has become the fulfillment of the centuries-old dream of our people to live and develop in an independent state recognized by the international community.


During the conversation, the parties confirmed their commitment to further strengthening Russian-Abkhaz allied relations, developing interstate cooperation and expanding ties between the peoples of Russia and Abkhazia.
